For my final in this class I made a video focused on a pencil. I think that the final went pretty well overall. My idea was good, and I think that the footage I got did it justice. My only issue was how little time I had to edit the footage as I did kind of wait to the last minute to film it. This led to the editing being a little rushed, but it still worked. I liked the final too as I thought the idea was an interesting challenge. It encouraged me to think outside of the box and for once not use photos. Having to use my own footage, while harder, makes the project really feel like my own. The hardest part of the project was planning it all out and making sure that I got all of the required shots, but that was part of the fun. Another reason that I liked this final was that it had more direction to it. Before we didn't really have any requirements which often left me with no idea what I was going to do, but with the more strict concept it have me something to go off of. So in conclusion I liked the final and I think that mine went well despite it me having to rush it a little by the end. Click here to watch the video.

I just finished my April project for Broadcast tech, and it went well. I made a lot of improvements on my first project, which was pretty messy. This one is a lot more polished, with better audio, script, and higher res photos. Though, the photos are my one issue with the project. Since my project is about climate change, many of the things I wrote about are weather, climate, and storms. I can't really go out and film these things as they are either not physical things or are unrelistic to film, so my project is made up of only photos. The photos are all good though, as I found I really good website for fidning free to use photos that don't even require me to create a water mark. Overall the project went well with me finishing before it was due letting me polish it some more. The photo bellow is of NASA's website on climate change which was one of my main sources of information for this project. Click here to watch the video
For my 3rd project I decided to make a video for HECTV. The theme for this month was Earth Day so I decided to make an informatinal video on Global Warming. The video has gone pretty well so far. I have my script written, and its decently long and informative, which is good for this kind of video. I also got pictures to match what is going on in the script. So I really just need to record my voice over, which I can do at any time, and edit it all together. I will almost certainlty have it done by the deadline, which is good because my last project was a little rushed. My only worry is that my video will be a little boring, but I am doing my best to keep the script engaging and intresting throughout the whole thing. Overall my project is going well and I am on schedule to finish it on time. Here is a picture of my script for the video.
For my first real project in this class I made a video about the softwares and platforms that amatuar producers can use to make and promote their music. The project went pretty well overall. It was my first project so it was a little messy from a planning perspective, but it did get done. I think the final product was pretty good for a first project of the year and I am happy that I got so much information into it. I started the project writing the script and then I moved on to collecting the B Roll. Since this project is about online software the vast majority of my B roll is screen recording of me on the websites Im talking about. After that I got my interview with someone who uses the software Im talking about to make music. Lastly I edited the project which went well and overall I am happy with what I made
For my first assignment in Broadcast tech 2 I helped out in the studio. We were working on a ladue view and I was assigned to be the camera opperator. It was a good experance to see how the studio works, but I got kinda bored with my job. Since I didn't get to move the second camera all I did was set up the camera in the begining. After that I didn't have anything to do, so I got bored really fast. I wish that I did get to set up the second camera at one point so I would have something to do but that did not happen. As I mentioned earlier though seeing the studio in action was cool. Seeing a bunch of people working on their individual jobs come together to make something cohesive was interesting. So even though I did not get to do much I still gained something from the experiance.
In broadcast tech we made a news package for our final. It was a good choice for a final because it did incorporate everything we learned previously in the year. I had a slightly harder than most people because I chose to cover something in the past which limited the broll that I could use. It did have upsides though, I was able to get reshoots more easily since my grandfather lives just down the street from me. Other than broll things were good, I got the interviews done quickly and they both had good and useful sound bites in them. The editing process went smoothly too. There were no issues getting it all together, and while I don't think that it's amazing, it's still pretty good. Overall the final went ok and I think I did pretty well on it.
Overall I liked broadcast tech. I liked that the class was structured very informally, and a lot of the time we could just get in and get to work. I thought the projects themselves were ok. A lot of them were very simple and were just completing a checklist of required shots. It makes sense since we're in tech one, but it still wasn't that interesting sometimes. I do like how we had little to no homework, and how the class was pretty easy overall. My favorite project was the 6 word story because it was one of the most free and unrestricted. It was also just fun to make. I don't think that we got a clear enough idea of what we needed on our final though. You mentioned it here and there, but with having seen the editing template first it is kinda unless. We were expected to watch a few examples and know what we needed, and it didn't work for me. The final itself was fine though, I just chose a bad project because BROLL was very limited. I might take broadcast tech 2 I'm not fully decided yet.
In class today we learned about BRoll sequences and were reminded about the major rules of BRoll. Those rules are, you can never have too much BRoll and that it should be relevant to the voice over. We also all filmed 5 separate shots of Mr. Goble to help us get used to filming BROll, because we will need to film a lot of it for our Final project.
In broadcast tech we recorded an extreme wide shot and an extreme close up of the same location. Then we deleted the audio of the wide shot and replaced it with the close up's audio. This helped me learn how in movies the audio always sound so close up and good. This was also good practice with editing because we don't edit audio that often.
In class today we watched six videos about small personal news stories and connected them to the hey you see so method of telling a story. One of the videos I watched was called Middle School Football and it was about a football team that decided to let a kid with special needs on there team score a touchdown. This story follows the model, and the first is hey. It shows us that this seemingly uninteresting football team decided to plan something incredible. This is the hook because it immediately gets our attention, and has us wondering what they did. Then we are told what it is and why we should care. This is they you part of the story. Then we are shown footage of the event and interviews from the parent of the kid. Lastly we see the so. We see interviews with the other kids on the team, and we see how it affected them and we see why this plan mattered. The other video I watched was the one about the boy trying to make people smile. This follows the method as well. They hey is us meeting the boy and how tragic his life has been so far. Then the you, we hear what this boy is going to do and why it could make people happier. Then we see him doing him giving out the ducks and the reactions it gets. The so comes when the boy is talking about how happy it makes people and we truly see the impact of what he's doing.
